University of Sussex Celebrates Global Success in 2025

The University of Sussex has been going from strength to strength and is quickly becoming a leading institution for international students. From celebrating its incredibly diverse student body, to providing an honourary degree to former Green Party Leader (and current MP for Brighton Pavilian) Caroline Lucas, in this article we will cover the University’s many achievements and successes from the past few months.
Recently, the University of Sussex hosted their annual Winter Graduation, which celebrated the incredible achievements of over 2000 students who have graduated from over 143 countries, something that they are incredibly proud of.
The university also presented an honourary degree to Caroline Lucas, former Green Party Leader and current MP for Brighton Pavilion.
On receiving the award, Lucas said: “It is a real privilege to be awarded this honorary degree – my first – by the University of Sussex. After many years of serving the people of Brighton, it is really heartwarming to have my work recognised in this way.”
The University of Sussex Business School is very proud to announce that they have retained the number one ranking in the UK for Business and Management in terms of research income.
A report by Research Income for Business and Management has ranked the university the highest amongst all of the business schools in the UK, as it received an incredible £6.7 million in research income for the 2022/2023 period.

Another amazing achievement - the Times Higher Education 2025 World University Rankings have placed six of the University of Sussex’s subjects within its top 200, with Social Sciences being ranked joint 70th and Psychology 77th. Business and Economics, Physical Sciences, Arts and Humanities and Law are also featured in the top 200.
Bridget Phillipson (the Secretary of State for Education) has extended a heartfelt welcome to current and future international students. In a video released by the UK government, she provided a message of encouragement for all overseas students hoping to study in the UK:
“An education from a British university has been the springboard to success for so many global trailblazers [...] You could be part of the next wave of ground breaking researchers and join a new generation of inspiring leaders.”
GREAT scholarships – The GREAT Scholarship is a collaborative effort that is funded by both the UK government’s GREAT Britain Campaign, the British Council and the University of Sussex. These scholarships are open to all full-time postgraduate students from China, Kenya, and Thailand pursuing Master's programs
Undergraduate country scholarships – Students from certain countries (Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Türkiye, and Vietnam) who are admitted to a full-time Bachelor's program will now qualify for an annual award of £1,500 for each year of their studies
Postgraduate country scholarships – These are the same as last year: £4,000 for applicants of certain nationalities (Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Türkiye and Vietnam)
School award reminder – International Master's students who are enrolled in the University of Sussex Business School or the School of Engineering & Informatics will be eligible for a £2,000 School Award, which can be used in combination with the scholarships mentioned above.
International students at the University of Sussex are well supported in terms of opportunities - the university’s Careers and Employability team have actually won two awards within the last year:
The 2024 Entrepreneurship Catalyst Award at the National Enterprise Educator Awards.
The university ranks particularly well for employability - being 16th in the UK in the QS World Rankings.
The university also ranks exceptionally well for innovation, being ranked 41st in The World University Rankings for innovation and 3rd in the UK in 2024.
